“On February 14, 2020, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Akeem Shonari Awer (‘Awer’) was convicted of violating Section 38 of the Arms Export Control Act (22 U.S.C. Sec. 2778) (‘AECA’). Specifically, Awer was convicted for knowingly and willfully attempting to export firearms and ammunitions from the United States to Barbados without having first obtained the required licenses or written approval from the United States Department of State. As a result of his conviction, the Court sentenced Awer to 46 months in prison, two years of supervised released, and a $100 court assessment.”
